Dr. DivX OSS is a portable application for transcoding videos in many formats to DivX. You may want to convert your videos to DivX files for several reasons. It could be to enhance the playback quality, allow yourself to play your videos on any platform (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Palm OS, cell phones, and Pocket PC) or even in a growing number of DVD players that now support the DivX standard. Another reason could be that, unlike other video containers, DivX files support multiple audio tracks, multiple subtitle files, chaptering, and interactive menus.
Dr. DivX is very easy to use. You will need to choose the file or batch of files that you want to convert. They can be in any of these formats: AVI, DIVX, AVS, MOV, MPG, WMV, or VOB. The program will detect the audio tracks in the original file, and will also show a video preview on the right panel of the main interface. The program allows you to chose your preferred output quality settings as well (this feature did not work in the beta version). Thus, the output file will be created using the default settings. When finished, it will generate a new DivX file in the folder you selected.
To be able to use this program, you must have DivX 6 or newer installed in your system. If the installation detects that you do not have it, it will offer you to visit the DivX website in order to download and install it.
